telephone rings, no one there, attempt to ring back & informed the number was cut off.

rang 4 times within nine minutes, including a fifth 'unknown' attempt. we recognise of noone in the Carolinas.

This number along with many others has called my phone and when i pick up no one is on the line. When i call the number back i receive the message 'your call cannot be completed as dialed'. What is this and why does this happen to my phone?

Calls in pairs multiple times a day. Second call is immediately following first. Start early every hour or so and continue in same general pattern during afternoon.
