Be careful who you talk to about this. I received a letter along with an attached W-9. I shredded both of them the 'first' time I received it. Just the other day I received a follow-up suggesting that my account may be canceled if I did not provide this information. Like others, I called the phone number on the back of my card. I originally spoke with someone with an Indian accent who told me that the letter WAS legitimate. When I questioned why they needed a W-9 he was confused and transferred me to a service rep in my own state who was concerned and did quite a bit of checking. She informed me that THIS LETTER IS FRAUDULENT. So again, be careful if someone tells you it's legit. I believe the offshore person was just appeasing me and didn't really know what he was talking about. Thank God he transferred me otherwise I might have provided personal information based on his recommendation.
